The Journey to the Promised Land

Israel told the Amorites that they did not want to posses their land and asked permission to cross over. The tabernacle (a large tent to be the center of Jewish worship) was built. After God brought the ten plagues on the Egyptians, they allowed the Israelites to leave the land of Egypt and to begin their journey to the "promised land." THE LIFE OF MOSES The life of Moses divides itself into three equal parts of forty years each. Before the death of Moses, two nations on the east side of the Jordan River were defeated. The people built the golden calf to be their "god"; which Moses destroyed. SINAI Having left the land of Egypt and miraculously crossing the Red Sea, the Israelites arrived at Mt. Because they do not believe God, He prevents them from entering the land for another 40 years. When they arrived at a place called Kadesh-Barnea, twelve spies were sent into the land to find out about it. The time of the fulfilling of the promise had arrived (Acts 7:17), so God raised up Moses as a Deliverer to lead the Israelites from the land of Egypt. Sinai. They remained at the mount for almost a year. Moses, as an old man, was permitted to climb to the top of Mt. He was told that he could only view it from the top of Mt. For "breaking faith" with God by taking credit for bringing water out of the rock at Kadesh Barnea 38 years earlier, Moses was forbidden to actually set foot in the promised land. Moses never set foot in the "promised land": Amorite territory was never originally part of the promised land. This lesson deals with the last forty years of his life, as leader of the children of Israel. Pisgah. The next forty years were spent in the land of Midian tending sheep, where Moses had fled from the anger of the king. (counted). The people were numbered. The time of the fulfilling of the promise had arrived (Acts 7:17), so God raised up Moses as a Deliverer to lead the Israelites from the land of Egypt. They returned after forty days, with the report of the beauty of the land, but ten of the twelve spies forgot about the fact that God was helping them and persuaded the people they just were not able to capture the land. In this way there is no contradiction with Moses being forbidden to set foot in the promised land, yet walked through the Amorite land, that would by exception, become part of the promised land given to the tribes Gad and Reuben. For forty years the nation of Israel were wanderers in the wilderness; God gave them bread (called manna) from heaven and often gave them water by a miracle. Numbers’ narrative spans 40 years. Moses allowed this exception based upon the condition that the men would fight along side Israel on the other side of the Jordan. Numbers concludes with the Israelites on the Plains of Moab, just across the river from the promised land. The story begins at Mount Sinai (after the Levitical law is delivered), and follows the children of Israel through the wilderness. They were told that they must wander in the wilderness for forty years until all of the men who did not believe Him died; then their children would go into the land. While here, four notable events occurred. Sinai, the Israelites headed toward the promised land. EVENTS AT MT. Look at the map below to see the location of the events of this lesson. Hundreds of years had passed since God promised the land of Canaan to Abraham and his descendants. They reach the promised land, but doubt God’s promises when they see the land’s mighty inhabitants. P. God delivered to Moses the ten commandments on the table of stone. If they did not join them in the fight, the deal was off and they would be given part of the land promised to Abraham.
